AirTran moves to reduce carbon footprint

According to a Orlando Business Journal July 13, 2009 Article, AirTran Airways Inc. is joining with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources to reduce the low-cost carrier’s environmental impact.

Orlando-based AirTran (NYSE: AAI) was recognized July 9 by DNR as a bronze level member of the state’s Partnership for a Sustainable Georgia campaign.

As part of the pact, AirTran has agreed to assess its environmental impact and develop programs to reduce such things as its carbon footprint, water usage, solid waste disposal and fuel consumption. The company, with the help of an employee advisory committee, will identify goals to reduce waste, and under DNR guidelines, will have three years to achieve them.
